The past 12 months have been an amazing journey.
I have been fortunate to travel across all three AIS Regions, make new friends, and learn about the positive trajectory of our discipline. Our members tell stories of surging enrollments, growing engagement with industry, and conducting high impact research. This is a great time to be part of the Information Systems discipline!
At each stop in my journey, I have been impressed by our members’ commitment to doing work the right way – be it in the field, be it in the scholarly work or be it in the classroom. Our members are thought leaders at global forums such as Davos and the United Nations, publishing across the top journals in the Business, Organization Sciences, and Computing disciplines, and educating the future leaders in the Information Systems community across the world!
While doing so, my journey has underscored that our members care about creating an inclusive and global Association. Your support has made possible an Association that provides a platform for scholars from more than 100 countries, who, while they may differ in methods, ontologies, and epistemologies, share a passion for enabling individuals, organizations and societies’ performance through more effective application of information systems and information technology.
With support from our members, AIS has truly become a global platform for the IS community. With the recent mergers with PACIS and ECIS, AIS now hosts the major global, as well as the major regional, scholarly conferences on Information Systems. Moreover, we enjoy a growing relationship with HICSS – arguably the oldest venue for Information Systems research – with AIS co-sponsoring the HICSS doctoral student consortium and HICSS sharing its proceedings with the community through the AIS e-library. Perhaps due to these new connections, AIS membership has reached record levels.
Please join me in taking a moment to enjoy our community’s successes - celebrate being part of our global community, reflect on our values of inclusion and the free exchange of ideas, and share my gratitude for the many volunteers that have made our community’s success possible.
To that end, we understand current events have caused concern among our members. We have addressed those here http://aisnet.org/news/328790/A-Message-to-the-Members-of-AIS.htm and look forward to continued discussion on how to serve all AIS members.
And please accept my thanks for your continued support for the Association for Information Systems, and more importantly, your support for the Information Systems Discipline. The success of the Association and the Discipline are truly intertwined.
I look forward to seeing each of you, as WE continue this journey in the future! Together, we are changing the world – and I look forward to celebrating your successes!
With warm regards,
