Thank you for being a member of the Association for Information Systems and continuing your support for AIS.
The end of an eventful year provides an opportunity to reflect on the past and look into the future of the association. The upcoming year looks bright for information systems professionals and scholars, and we expect 2018 to be a great year for our students as the job market remains strong. This is reflected by more students choosing information systems as their major as well as in dean’s decisions to allocate positions to IS departments. The IS job index, due to be released in January 2018, provides a resource for all of you to make this point for your respective schools.
During 2017 the global presence of AIS was a key theme and we are very pleased to see that with the European Conference on Information Systems joining as a regional conference, we now have three regional conferences: AMCIS, PACIS and ECIS. Furthermore, HICSS has been added to the AIS eLibrary. These additions provide us with a strong foundation for the future and complement our globally rotating flagship conference, ICIS. We have just had ICIS, hosted in Seoul, and celebrated a very successful turnout, with more than 1,200 members from all over the globe participating. In 2018, we will concentrate on delivering both high-quality conferences, as well as easily accessible sub-regional conferences, which provide possibilities for our members to gather and share their results and insights and to socialize with peers.
During 2017 we started several initiatives to strengthen the digital services of AIS and we are excited by the new functionalities for Communities that will be rolled out during 2018. The new digital platform allows for groups to have their own websites, communication channels and so on. At the same time the AIS eLibrary is growing and has become a very valuable resource for those seeking for key IS journal publications and cutting-edge conference papers.
2017 was a transitional year in the AIS Office with the new Conference Director, Executive Director and Membership Director. However, year after year the stabilizing force across the association is our members, our eLibrary, our Conferences, our Communities and our incredible volunteers who review papers, participate on committees, host workshops, lead conferences and run for Council and continue moving this association forward. AIS cannot exist without the incredible efforts of our volunteers! THANK YOU TO ALL AIS MEMBERS!
AIS reached record membership levels during 2017 and continued strengthening the membership value proposition in the association during 2017 by:
- Adding resources/holdings to the AIS eLibrary
- Expanding the use of the mobile conference application across all conferences
- Expanding career and placement services
- Strengthening connections and ties with regional conferences such as ECIS, PACIS, and HICSS
- Reinforcing the commitment to maintaining a global academic association as one of our highest priorities and missions
- Adding access to new and innovative member services such as research ranking services, Eduglopedia, and broadening access in the AIS Affiliated journals program.
The excitement continues to grow during 2018 as we look forward to adding a new Diversity Committee to AIS, establishing an AIS Advisory Board, and expanding our support and services across AIS Communities with the new P2P community platform.
Building on those successes, we are looking forward to the opportunity to meet with IS colleagues across the globe during ECIS 2018 in Portsmouth, PACIS 2018 in Yokohama, AMCIS 2018 in New Orleans and ICIS 2018 in San Francisco. These conferences provide us an opportunity to continue to serve the IS field, as well as society, to advance our collective mission.
Finally, THANK YOU for being a member of AIS and look for the announcements of new member services during 2018.
